For over a century, the Schunk Group has stayed at the forefront of high-tech manufacturing through continuous innovation. As part of their digital transformation strategy, Schunk aimed to become a data-driven organization, developing intelligent products, services, and processes powered by real-time insights from their factories.

However, achieving this vision required a centralized platform to consolidate operational data across systems, equipment, and teams. Without it, engineers and planners struggled to extract meaningful insights quickly, limiting the ability to drive improvements in quality, efficiency, and yield.

The Solution

Building the Schunk Data Analytics Platform (SDAP)

To support Schunk’s digitalization strategy, we partnered with their team to design and implement the Schunk Data Analytics Platform (SDAP), a unified solution that aggregates and visualizes factory and equipment data, becoming the single source of truth for operations.

Using our Intelligent Data Factory framework, we accelerated platform delivery with proven cloud architecture patterns, code templates, and best practices optimized for manufacturing. Most use cases were fully implemented in 12 weeks or less.

We cleaned, combined, and correlated data from multiple sources and visualized insights using Statistical Process Control (SPC) tools. To make analysis more intuitive, we embedded a GenAI assistant that lets users interact with the platform through natural language, removing the need to understand table structures or manually filter data.

Adoption was key to success. We used a collaborative, step-by-step rollout model that paired project managers, data engineers, and manufacturing experts with Schunk’s domain specialists. This ensured the platform met real user needs and integrated smoothly with daily workflows.

The results

Driving Predictive Power with Real-World Impact

The data platform currently supports over 20 use cases, some of which help Schunk predict maintenance and significantly speed up root cause analyses. These cases show a double-digit ROI.
