The Xamarin San Diego User Group has been steadily gaining momentum, and last Meetup were a milestone for the group. Russ Gibfried, an enterprise architect from HP, was the first guest speaker, and the presentation was entertaining and engaging. Ryan Costigan from TEKSystems graciously provided the fan favorite sub sandwiches and craft beer.

After a majority of the attending, members assembled and had a chance to fill up on subway and Racer5 IPA, Ann-Louise Strandberg from Seamgen introduced Russ. Ann-Louise welcomed new comers, which were a majority of the audience. Russ brought some handouts with some questions to answer by following along with his talk, as well as some source code from his Xamarin project. Those who attended the lecture or watched the video will attest to the comic relief brought by countless comparisons to Clint Eastwood’s role as Dirty Harry, or ‘Digital Harry’ as Russ believes it would be today.

Russ based his presentation on the project HP used Xamarin to build for San Diego County Probation Officers. Android Wear offers hands-free, real-time information right on their wrist. There are a lot of opportunities at hand –pun intended, and with geo-fencing capabilities, there will be a lot of integration with location-based notifications.

Check out the YouTube video, and look forward to more work from Russ. As always, come to the Xamarin San Diego User Group Meetups on the second Thursday of every month.
